Over 1,000 FWISD Juniors Presented With Academic Sweatshirts for Scholastic Excellence
Fort Worth ISD recognized 1,048 of high school juniors at its annual Academic Sweatshirt Award Ceremony and reception, Monday, November 18.
The ceremony and reception, sponsored by the District and Lockheed Martin Aeuronatics, recognizes students who completed their sophomore year of high school with a GPA of 3.8 or better. Honorees inducted into the distinguished club receive a sweatshirt with the initials of their high school, its academic banner and the student’s personal monogram on the sleeve.
This year’s ceremony included the presentation of colors by the O.D. Wyatt JROTC, entertainment from the North Side High School Mariachi Espuelas de Plata and a one-tenth-scale model of Lockheed Martin’s F-35 on display. Orlando Sanchez Jr., vice president of F-22 Programs for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics was the ceremony’s guest speaker.
The Academic Sweatshirt Scholar Program was established in 1989 with 100 students acknowledged for completing their sophomore year with a GPA of 3.8 or higher. Over the last 30 years, more than 9,000 FWISD students have received the distinction for achieving academic excellence.
