Paschal, South Hills HS Students Advance to FBLA National Contest
Multiple Fort Worth ISD students have qualified for competition at the Future Business Leaders of America National Leadership Conference this summer in Baltimore, Maryland.
Students from Paschal, Polytechnic and South Hills recently competed in the FBLA state competition in Dallas. Of the competing students from FWISD, 11 from Paschal and South Hills high schools have qualified for national contests. Competition categories included business, marketing, animation and finance.
Students placing first through fourth in contests automatically qualified for the national competition, and students finishing in fifth place are alternates for nationals.
Fifty Paschal High students competed in the state competition. This is the second consecutive year students from the school have placed at the state level. Thalia Hernandez was selected for a $500 scholarship.
The Paschal FBLA advisers are Corie Griffin, Alfredo Martinez and Thomas Kiesel.
The following Paschal High students earned individual awards and either qualified for nationals or as an alternate:
- Christopher Wood - 1st place - Cyber Security;
- Brandon Meyers - 2nd place - Sales Presentation;
- Taha Sharaf - 3rd place - Introduction to Parliamentary Procedures;
- Camrynn Jaco - 4th place - Sales Presentation;
- Josselyn Montes - 4th place - Accounting 2;
- Jordan Pieper - 5th place - Client Services;
- Janet Ruiz - 5th place - Job Interview;
- Margaret Hurst - 5th place - Organizational Leadership.
The Paschal High FBLA chapter earned the following honors:
- 1st place - Largest contribution for March of Dimes;
- 1st place- Largest Contribution per member for March of Dimes;
- Largest area increase in membership in – 230 percent;
- One hundred percent chapter contribution to FBLA Endowment Fund.
A trio from South Hills earned third-place team honors for 3D animation. The students are 11th-graders Emilio Contreras, Rosio Frias, Luis Hernandez. The students, who were just beginning to learn 2D animation, taught themselves how to utilize software for creating 3D animation, models, games and images to compete in the category.
This is the second consecutive year South Hills has had multiple students place at the state level. The chapter advisers are Saleta Thomas, Tracy Gillespie and Julie Fisher.
The FBLA National Leadership Conference is slated for Thursday, June 28 through Sunday, July 1.
