Wedgwood MS Toxic Geckos Robotics Team Road to Championships!
Fort Worth, Texas - Once again the Toxic Geckos robotics team from Fort Worth ISD’s Wedgwood Middle School After-School program is a major contender in the world of First Tech Challenge robotics competition.
A recent competition on Saturday, January 27, gave the team an opportunity to practice, formulate strategies and look at some of their other competition from the area. Under the direction and supervision of teacher and sponsor Charlie Parker, the team placed second beating out 26 other teams in five qualifying matches.
They turned down an invitation to work with the number one team from another district in order to form an alliance with a rookie team from Diamond-Hill Jarvis HS.
"That’s what we call sticking together as a partner in the district," says Terry Barnhard, an Engineering teacher at Wedgwood MS. Mr. Barnhard has been assisting during the matches and supporting the Geckos throughout their competitions.
The Toxic Geckos have already qualified for the upcoming regional competition to be held at Wylie East High School in Wylie, Texas on February 10, 2018.
If the Geckos place well in regional matches they could be selected for the Super Regionals in Atlanta Georgia, March 8-11, 2018. Super Regional winners advance to the World Championships in Houston.
