FWISD Named Best Community for Music Education Fifth Straight Year
Fort Worth ISD, for the fifth straight year, is designated one of the Best Communities for Music Education.
The 2018 recognition, presented by the NAMM Foundation, honors districts and individual schools for their goal of ensuring music access to students in the classroom and for an “outstanding commitment to music education,” according to the nonprofit partly supported by the National Association of Music Merchants. The District, according to the NAMM Foundation, had to respond to questions about “funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time facilities,” music program support and “community music-making programs” to qualify for the designation.
“Our school and community leaders believe music education plays a vital role in the improvement of students social, emotional and soft skills needed to be college, career and military ready, as well as developing their talent,” said Christina Walk, FWISD executive director of visual and performing arts, in a recent statement. “The Best Communities for Music Education designation affirms our programs are aligned and supported to provide a valuable experience to the students in our District.”
Fort Worth ISD has received the Best Communities for Music Education since 2014. Last November, the District was presented with a framed certificate on behalf of Texas Governor Greg Abbott for its 2017 designation.
