"Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." -Emerson
The Wedgwood Choirs certainly blazed a trail this past week at the state UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Competition as they represented our program, school, district, and community! The resilience, perseverance, determination, and grit of our Choir students continues to inspire me every day. The pure joy in the attached pictures says it all!
Each choir prepared and refined three songs for the Concert Portion as well as read a new piece of music using solfege for the Sight-Reading performance. Six judges gave them a score based on the state standard/rubric. The highest score that can be earned is a Superior. A Superior score in both concert and sight-reading is referred to as a "Sweepstakes." Ms. Burchfield and I are proud to share the following results:
Non-Varsity Treble Choir - Concert: Superior, Sight-Reading: Superior
Non-Varsity Tenor/Bass Choir - Concert: Excellent, Sight-Reading: Superior
Varsity Treble Choir - Concert: Superior, Sight-Reading, Superior
This superior level of performance across multiple choral ensembles has not been achieved at the state level in the Choir Program at Wedgwood MS since 2011. We truly appreciate your support as the Choir Program continues to find opportunities that empower our students to be better musicians and humans. Please be sure to congratulate these students in your classes! They make us proud to be WARRIORS!
