Voter Registration Deadline Is Monday, October 7
The voter registration deadline for the November 5 elections is Monday, October 7.
Texans who want to be eligible to vote in the next election, November 5, must complete and submit their voter registration application by the deadline. In-person early voting for the November 5 election will take place at designated polling locations October 21-November 1.
Per the Texas Education Code, high schools are required to have a campus principal or designee serving as a deputy registrar and who twice a year distributes a registration application to each student who is or will be 18 years old or older on Election Day, subject to rules put in place by the Texas Secretary of State office.
This fall, 33 voter registration events are scheduled for Fort Worth ISD high school students, and an additional 20 events are slated next spring. As of October 4, 2019, 217 FWISD students registered to vote at high school voter registration events. That’s 10 percent of FWISD students that are eligible to vote.
Residents are eligible to vote in Texas if they are:
- A U.S. citizen
- A resident of the county they’re submitting their application in
- At least 17 years and 10 months old, and will be 18 years old on Election Day
- Not a convicted felon (residents are eligible if they’ve completed their sentence, probation and parole)
- Not declared by a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be either totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote
Voters who’ve previously registered may check their status at votetexas.gov using their:
- Texas driver’s license number if used when applying for voter registration
- Voter Unique Identifier issued on their voter registration certificate
- First and last name
