Jesus Paredes recognized as a National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar
World Languages Institute (WLI) senior Jesus Paredes has been recognized as a National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) Scholar by the College Board.
To qualify, students must have scored a minimum of 1290 on the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), have had at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average by the middle of their junior year and be at least one-quarter of Hispanic/Latino Heritage.
Students must have ancestors from at least one of the following countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, Uruguay, or Venezuela. Each year the NHRP recognizes approximately 5,000 of the 250,000 Hispanic/Latino juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT®.
Jesus Paredes is an Honor Roll student. Paredes is also Vice President of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, Secretary of the Senior Council and is active in community service outside of school. He plans to major in biology in college with the goal of attending medical school.
