Texas Sales Tax Holiday is August 6-8

Texas is observing its 2021 Sales Tax Holiday this weekend, August 6-8.

Clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks sold for less than $100 at Texas stores or from an online or catalog seller doing business in the state is tax-free during the annual holiday.

School supplies may be one thing parents in the Fort Worth ISD can strike off their checklist this weekend.

Recently, the District announced that it is picking up the tab for student school supplies.

With the use of about $4.5 million in federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) dollars provided to the District, FWISD is funding classroom supplies for all enrolled elementary school students. Each teacher at the secondary level will receive a $200 supply budget to support instruction.

Texans have observed tax-free weekend since 1999. This year, Texas shoppers are expected to “save an estimated $107.3 million in state and local sales taxes” during the three-day holiday, according to the Texas Comptroller’s office.
