Discover the Fort Worth ISD Learning Model
The Fort Worth ISD Learning Model allows students to take ownership of their learning, become excited about education and more engaged in classroom lessons.
Launched last fall on several District campuses, the Learning Model is the District’s next chapter in developing a student-centered learning culture. Plans are underway to expand to model’s implementation at campuses throughout the District.
Students need the basics -- reading, writing and math -- said Superintendent Kent P. Scribner. But, the Learning Model also provides students with other needed skills for success and leadership including communication, collaboration, technology, problem solving, creativity, flexibility and adaptability.
“The Fort Worth ISD Learning Model basically redesigns instruction to focus on critical thinking and deeper content knowledge,” Dr. Scribner said.
The Learning Model is made up of four components – challenge, research and create, communicate, reflect and grow. Through the components, students develop shared ownership, leadership and collaboration skills.
Teachers and administrators implementing the model on their campuses receive several days of professional training and classroom coaching.
“The teacher designs challenging learning experiences so that students will research to strengthen their literacy skills, create with technology tools, learn to communicate at high levels through writing, conversation and presentation, and engage in student leadership through collaboration,” said Khechara Bradford, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction.
Here’s three ways to learn more about the District’s Learning Model:

The Learning Model, developed with assistance of community members, is created for all students from prekindergarten to 12th grade.
