Winter Weather
Fort Worth ISD is committed to keeping our students and employees warm and comfortable during this cold weather season. We all realize that the age and condition of some our HVAC equipment will require serious repair or replacement and we are making plans to prioritize that work.
With the especially frigid temperatures we’re experiencing this week, we have implemented additional measures to ensure classrooms are comfortable. These additional measures include:
- Bringing the boilers on at 5:30 a.m. and leaving them on until 11:30 p.m. through Thursday and from 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. Boilers are turned off when the building is vacant for safety reasons (for schools with boilers).
- We are operating roof top heater units 24/7 (for schools with roof top units).
- Our energy specialists are working 24/7 mitigating issues on comfort levels.
- School Leadership directors are checking with each principal and forwarding comfort concerns to Operations, Maintenance, and District energy specialists to ensure issues are addressed quickly.
- When buildings are not occupied, the temperature is set to maintain a minimum of 68 degrees.
- We are in the process of providing space heaters for augmented heating where necessary.
- Campus administrators have been instructed to relax dress codes rules and allow students to wearing more comfortable clothing in the classroom.
The temperature this morning was 13 degrees, setting a seven-year low record in our area. Some of our aging equipment is working at capacity to overcome that temperature deficit. We will continue to correct all the issues as they are brought to our attention.
