Four FWISD Teams to Compete in ProStart Regionals
Culinary arts students from four Fort Worth Independent School District high schools will participate in the 2018 Texas ProStart Invitational regional competition, Saturday, January 20 in Frisco.
The competing high school teams from FWISD are:
- O.D. Wyatt
- Polytechnic
- South Hills
- Trimble Technical
Up to 23 culinary and 14 management teams are expected to compete in the regional competition hosted at Collin County College. Management teams are tasked with developing a new restaurant concept and presenting the idea before judges with expertise in the restaurant industry and postsecondary education. The teams are evaluated on a series of areas.
Competing culinary teams must develop a unique three-course menu in which they prepare a meal within an hour using two butane burners and no electricity or running water. The team must also factor in its recipe and food costs. Culinary teams are judged on the menu, its degree of difficulty, safety and sanitation, knife skills, cooking techniques, taste and presentation.
The top six culinary and management teams finishing at this weekend’s regional contest will advance to the Texas State ProStart Invitational this March at St. Phillip’s College in San Antonio.
