Garcia Huizar Finishes The Cowtown Ultra-Marathon
Yvonne Garcia Huizar, Fort Worth ISD District operations coordinator, completed her first ultra-marathon Sunday, February 25, humbled by the event.
This weekend, Ms. Garcia Huizar said she finished The Cowtown ultra-marathon, in six hours and 44 minutes,53 seconds, just about 30 past her six-hour, 15-minute goal.
Along the way, she said friends cheered her on. The last few legs of the race, friends and loved ones, one of which participated in the half marathon, ran alongside her. The forecast high on Sunday, February 25, was nearly 70 degrees.
“It was a hard, hot run,” Ms. Garcia Huizar said. “Such a humbling, awesome experience.”
She ran the 31-mile race in memory of her late father.
Ms. Garcia Huizar was not the only one participating in races at The Cowtown over the weekend.
Thousands of FWISD students, employees and their families participated in runs over the course of the weekend. The 40th Cowtown kicked off Saturday, February 24 with a 10K and adult and child 5K races. It continued Sunday with half-, full- and ultra-marathon races.
A large banner was placed on a bulletin board on the second floor of the FWISD Administration Building recognizing all the District’s participants in this year’s race.
“As we do in FWISD, we work hard to achieve our goals,” the banner reads. “Congratulations one and all!”
The Cowtown is the largest multi-race event in North Texas.
