Fort Worth ISD Selected for Education Champions Circle Tour and Awards Luncheon to Recognize Education Programs and Initiatives
A group of national and regional business executives, education and community leaders visited Fort Worth ISD this week to learn about programs and initiatives that help close the achievement gap and prepare students for college and career readiness. The Education Champions Circle Tour, under the umbrella of the Magdaleno Leadership Institute (MLI), visited the District to learn about equity initiatives, multilingual programs designed to close the achievement gap of English learners, the Parent University program at Manuel Jara Elementary School and the college readiness focus programs at Northside High School.
Superintendent Kent P. Scriber, School Board Trustee Jacinto Ramos, Multilingual Programs Executive Director Elda Rojas and other campus and school district staff greeted MLI leaders with a small presentation.
The morning began with a meeting with Dr. Scribner, a tour of Manuel Jara Elementary School and North Side High School. The visit concluded with a special Community Heroes Luncheon, sponsored by MLI, at the North Side High School Café. Culinary arts students from North Side High School prepared the meal and students in the mariachi band performed for the group. The Community Heroes Luncheon recognized an outstanding participant of the Parent University Program from Manuel Jara Elementary School.
MLI Education Champions Circle is a group of diverse and distinguished national and regional leaders who share a common interest to support and invest in educational initiatives to help advance all students, especially those of low socio-economic status and underserved backgrounds. This year, they selected to learn about Fort Worth ISD initiatives and to study ways to partner with the District to support it in various ways. They are especially interested in the District’s mission of “preparing ALL students for success in college, career, and community leadership” as well as the 100X25 FWTX initiative.
