Luella Merrett ES Recognizes Donors of $30,000 Gift
Luella Merrett Elementary School recently hosted a recognition ceremony for IGT (International Gaming Technologies) and State Rep. Craig Goldman (R-Fort Worth), who generously donated 70 Chromebooks and three carts for the devices to students.
The ceremony, hosted Monday, October 15, included a video on how the Chromebooks are being utilized and a student performance to thank the honorees. Posters and signs showing the school's appreciation were on display throughout the campus.
The gift, valued at $30,000, is a significant impact on student access to and use of technology on campus, which prior to the donation had one computer lab and two to three computers per classroom, according to school officials. The Chromebook donation allows students to access programs like Achieve 3000 and Smarty Ants and are utilized for teacher professional development sessions with a focus on technology integration.
“We are excited to recognize IGT and Rep. Goldman for their support and generous donation. It is great to see businesses and community leaders coming together to support our schools,” said Principal Karelyn Roberts. "Because of this donation we are able to provide educational opportunities that are highly engaging for students and challenge them to think critically and problem solve.”
School officials say the Chromebooks support and enhance student learning while also providing a technology-rich environment.
“The kids are always so excited to get on the Chromebooks,” said Librarian Amy Smiley. They are able to collaborate with classmates, create, and utilize technology programs that make learning fun!”
IGT is the lottery technology partner to the Texas Lottery. Rep. Goldman has represented District 97 in the Texas House of Representatives since 2012.
