The annual Academic Sweatshirt Award Ceremony, sponsored by the Fort Worth ISD and Lockheed Martin, recognizes students who complete their 10th-grade year with a 3.8 GPA or better. Students receive a sweatshirt with initials of their high school, the academic banner, and their personal monogram on the sleeve.
Lockheed Martin will display a one-tenth-scale model of its F-35 at the event.
Established in 1989, the academic sweatshirt distinction was initially awarded to 100 students. Now in its 29th year, FWISD has recognized more than 8,000 students with academic sweatshirts for achieving academic excellence.
The ceremony is an invitation-only event. Honorees must RSVP through their school’s academic office. For more details, contact Norma Burks, the event coordinator and District Academic Activities Coordinator for AAIL Department, at 817-814-2576 or email norma.burks@fwisd.org.
