Fort Worth ISD Parents: Six Things to Know Before August 16
The new Fort Worth ISD school year begins on Monday, August 16. Here are a few things for parents to know.
- Learning this year will be 100% in-person, starting Monday, August 16. Virtual learning is not an option. The Fort Worth ISD will continue to implement a robust health safety plan that includes:
- Daily health screening performed at home before coming to school
- Daily campus cleanings
- Encouraging students, employees and visitors to practice good hand hygiene (hand washing and the use of hand sanitizer)
- While the District cannot require anyone to wear a mask (in compliance with the governor’s order), anyone who feels more comfortable wearing a mask, or having their children wear a mask, is encouraged to do so.
- Social distancing will be observed whenever possible.
- The COVID reporting protocol initiated during the last school year will remain in place.
- FWISD will monitor school trends and consult with Tarrant County Public Health and the Texas Education Agency.
- Online registration is for all students, both new and returning. The registration process is quick, and available in both English and Spanish atwww.fwisd.org/register.
- Learning Acceleration will continue throughout the new school year and will adjust to meet the needs of each school, classroom, and student including:
- Social Emotional Learning
- Family Engagement
- Freshman Success Teams
- High-Quality Tutoring
- More Learning Time (Summer, After School, Saturday)
- Connectivity with the Community – The District is bringing neighborhood-wide internet service to selected communities ready for the first day of school on August 16. New towers are in place at Dunbar High School, Eastern Hill High School, Rosemont Middle School, and Morningside Middle School. Starting in December, more towers will begin going up.
- High school students will return on Monday, August 16, to new collaborative learning spaces, career-focused classrooms, labs, and TV studios. Many schools also have beautiful new facades with controlled and secure entryways, all thanks to the 2017 Capital Improvement Project.
- All Fort Worth ISD students are eligible for free meals for the entire school year. Additionally, the District will use federal funds to purchase school supplies for all students at the elementary level. Teachers at the secondary level will receive federal money to purchase school supplies for their classrooms.
