Diamond Hill-Jarvis Pyramid Celebrates PLTW Challenge Winners
Diamond Hill-Jarvis pyramid schools recently celebrated the winners of its Project Lead the Way Summit Challenge with a dinner, a presentation of challenge projects, and a program recognizing challenge winners. Sheyla Alfau Jimenez, a Lockheed Martin Aeronautics representative and project manager with the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Sustainment Program Office, gave the keynote address at the May 23 program.
Six top awards in the categories of problem solver, best engineering notebook, team player, best innovator, Think Award, and Inspire Award were distributed to each participating school – Diamond-Hill Jarvis High School, Meacham Middle School, Cesar Chavez, Diamond Hill, H.V. Helbing and M.H. Moore Elementary Schools.
Students were challenged to use their STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) skills to develop a sail car.
Lockheed Martin engineers, Tarrant County College Northwest Campus employees and Fort Worth ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers judged the Project Lead the Way Summit Challenge presentations, from elementary, middle and high school students. Monday May 21 through Wednesday, May 23.
The program was held at Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School. Project Lead the Way is now in its third year at Fort Worth ISD schools. View photos from the event here.
In 2015, the District and Lockheed Martin announced a $1 million multi-year grant to expand college- and career-focused STEM programs for all district schools. This curriculum is offered through Project Lead The Way (PLTW), among the nation’s leading provider of K-12 STEM programs.
