Ask Elsie -- January 31, 2019
EDITOR’S NOTE: Ask Elsie is a column where Chief Financial Officer Elsie Schiro tackles employee queries, or in areas outside her purview, asks other District leaders to answer them.
Dear Elsie,
I am a Family Communication Specialist (full time assigned to a school), and I was wanting to know why are there not more specialists at the District level or even having people under them that are assigned to only a few schools that they are available to train people? There seems there is no room to grow in this position especially as someone with a bachelor's degree. Why?
Parent Liaison Issues
Dear Parent Liaison Issues,
Thank you for your question. I reached out to Jennifer Perez, director of FWISD’s Family Communications Department, regarding your question and here’s the response: “Thank you for your question regarding the Family Communications Specialist position. You should be in regular contact and attending monthly meetings with a District specialist from the office of Family Communications. We provide professional development and hold meetings for the pyramid regularly. This helps our liaisons and specialists work as a team within their community and lets us provide ongoing support and assistance based on your specific needs. Please contact me, Jennifer Perez, and I can put you in touch with your District specialist. Additionally, if you are in the full-time role, your job description identifies you as a pyramid leader and gives you the ability to help lead parent and community engagement within your neighborhood/pyramid. I think you’ll find engaging with our department more will help support the work you are passionate about.”
Thanks again Parent Liaison Issues for your question and thank you Ms. Perez for your response.
Elsie
Dear Elsie,
What is the progress of the new Tanglewood Elementary? Money has been approved and the land has been bought so when should we expect construction to start and the school to open?
Sara
Dear Sara,
Thank you for your question. I reached out to Vicki Burris, chief of FWISD’s Capital Improvement Program, regarding your question and here’s the response: “Per our Owner’s Representative, ‘Updates are available on the District website, but our expectation is that construction should start summer of 2019.’”
Thanks again Sara for your question and thank you Ms. Burris for your response.
