Over 400 FWISD Students and Their Siblings to Receive Winter Coats This Saturday
More than 400 Fort Worth ISD students and their siblings in the Cavile Pace community will stay warm this winter, thanks to a coat giveaway set for Saturday, November 16.
The Fort Worth ISD Family Action Center in partnership with Eberstein and Witherite, LLP and Fort Worth Housing Solutions will host the Cavile Coat Giveaway from 10 a.m. to noon at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Tarrant County J.A. Cavile Branch, located at 5021 Avenue G in Fort Worth. Fort Worth ISD students and their siblings who live in the Cavile Place apartment complex will receive free winter essentials and also be treated to free books, photos with Santa, playtime in a bounce house, a holiday photo booth, lunch and hot cocoa.
Organizers say the Cavile Coat Giveaway originated three years ago out of a growing concern for children walking to and from school on cold winter days without proper attire.
“We noticed our kids were missing school during harsh weather conditions or became ill due to lack of proper attire for winter weather, and it was affecting our school attendance rates,” said Carlos Walker, FWISD Family Action Center director. “This event will be to let our families know we truly value them, are concerned about their well-being, and most of all we want them to know that we want them to stay a part of the Fort Worth ISD family, even if it is another school in a different area because ‘You Belong Here’ in our District.”
This year’s coat giveaway marks the last for the Cavile Place community, which is being redeveloped and will result in many families being relocated to various locations.
Giveaway partner Eberstein and Witherite has purchased coats for FWISD students and their siblings in the Cavile place community the last three years and has also invested more than $100,000 in the Stop Six community.
“We believe in helping people. We believe in reaching out to them and being in our community,” said Amy Witherite, Eberstein Witherite founding partner. “You can’t believe the way these kids’ faces light up when they get to pick out their jacket. It’s something very simple that many of us take for granted.”
