Volunteers Give a Recess Refresh to Two FWISD Elementary Schools

Published June 13, 2022

When students return to Versia Williams Elementary and M.H. Moore Elementary in the fall, they will find sidewalk games like hopscotch, chess, tic-tac-toe, basketball, and more. Volunteers braved the morning heat and humidity June 9 to provide a recess refresh to paved areas by the playgrounds.

Volunteers from Blue Zones Project Fort Worth and Texas Health, including Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth President Joseph DeLeon, transformed the play areas with colorful graphics.

Versia Williams and M.H. Moore are Blue Zones Project Approved Schools with special programs and initiatives that focus on helping students make healthy life choices.

Stephanie Jackson, Director of Strategic Partnerships for Blue Zones Project Fort Worth, said the recess refresh had been planned for a while. “When we had the opportunity to have Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital ask for a volunteer day with us, we reached out to these campuses to make it happen.”

M.H. Moore Assistant Principal Kay Myers appreciated the volunteer effort to freshen up the outdoor area.

“Blue Zones Project Fort Worth continues to encourage health and wellness for the next generation. The students of M.H. Moore are blessed to have Blue Zones Project Fort Worth help establish fresh color and life into the place they learn and play. I love how colorful it turned out.”
