FWISD Approves 2022-23 School Calendar Focusing on Accelerating Student Learning
The Fort Worth ISD Board of Education unanimously approved the 2022-23 school calendar at the Jan. 25 regular board meeting. The new calendar adds 30 hours of student learning time and additional teacher preparation days throughout the school year.
New school hours for the 2022-23 school year will now include an additional 15 minutes at the beginning or end of the school day, or both, depending on the grade level. For teachers, the 2022-23 calendar provides five flex days and six prep days.

The new FWISD 2022-23 calendar focuses on accelerating student learning. It satisfies the new House Bill 4545 requirement for accelerated instruction for students who do not pass the state of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®).
In addition, the new 2022-23 calendar meets the state’s minute requirements in the event of time lost due to weather, safety or health issue. And, the added hours eliminate the need for “snow days” used to make up lost instruction. Furthermore, the new calendar aligns the District’s daily minutes with other nearby districts.
The approved calendar was one of two options recommended by staff following multiple meetings and feedback obtained from District stakeholders, including Pyramid Principals, the District Employee Relations Council (DERC), and parents.
Two additional 2022-23 calendars (also attached) were approved for three specialty campuses including Early College High School, Alice Carlson Elementary, and Jo Kelly School.
