Parents Updated of Resources, Materials Available for SPED Students Learning at Home
Education resources and materials are available for Fort Worth ISD special education students transitioning to learning at home because of the District’s closure due to COVID-19.
Recently, parents with special needs children received a letter with information on the resources being offered for their student during the District closure including virtual learning, paper packets, adaptive physical education options and learning for children with auditory impairments.
“Your child’s safety and education are of paramount concern for us. Although the physical campus is unfortunately closed, the District has prepared for your child’s education during this unique time,” Corey Golomb, FWISD assistant superintendent of specialized academic support services, wrote to parents in the recent letter. “ The technology of remote learning and/or packets will allow us to continue to provide instruction for as long as the current situation exists.
“As always, we will continue to work collaboratively with you to meet your child’s educational needs.”
The off-campus instruction includes modifications and or accommodations to a child’s individual education program (IEP), according to Ms. Golomb. Parents will be contacted via phone or email by their child’s case manager and or teacher share lessons, learn about the child’s progress and offer assistance as needed.
Annual ARD meetings scheduled for students during the District closure will be conducted virtually or by phone. Once school reopens, parents with concerns about their child’s program during remote learning, will be scheduled for an ARD meeting to address those concerns.
