The National PTA was organized February 17, 1897, in Washington, D.C. through the combined efforts of Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst. Texas PTA was organized in Dallas on October 19, 1909, by Ella Caruthers Porter and the Fort Worth PTA council was started several months later in 1910.
Texas PTA is a statewide, incorporated, non-profit, tax-exempt, charitable organization. It is the largest child advocacy organization in the state and supports the work of its Local PTAs and membership through programs and projects benefitting youth. Legislative activity is one method of achieving the goals of the organization. The Fort Worth Council of PTAs is your local support team. Council Board members train officers, strengthen local units, provide mentorship, encourage membership, and connect units with Texas and National PTA as well as with the FWISD. As part of its four regular meetings per year, it also hosts leadership training events in the Fall and Spring and as needed by its local PTA units.
