Arlington Heights Logo Celebrates School’s Centennial
Arlington Heights High School’s centennial celebration is marching on with an official logo courtesy of a special collaboration.
Arlington Heights teamed up with the District’s Creative Communications team to create a graphic commemorating 100 years of the local landmark. The design salutes the school’s unique history by capturing the “Spirit on the Hill” via its unmistakable tower.
“The Arlington Heights Tower is one of Fort Worth’s iconic landmarks,” Arlington Heights Principal Sarah Weeks said. “When lit at night, it illuminates, ‘The Hill’ for our surrounding neighborhoods. From its fantastic views of downtown, to our tradition of students climbing up inside to leave their commemorative graduation signature, we can think of no better representation of Arlington Heights in celebration of our centennial.”
For several weeks, District staff swapped ideas, and the logo’s look was developed through various options, edits and revisions. The inspiration for the initial design incorporated elements of a Trimble Tech High School’s 100-year anniversary logo in 2016, along with Arlington Height’s blue and gold colors, a crest and the campus image.
Weeks shared a drawing of the school’s tower by English teacher Michael Mimms, which became the logo’s centerpiece. “CELEBRATING 100 YEARS OF SPIRIT ON THE HILL - 1920-2020” encircles the tower image, with “ARLINGTON HEIGHTS HIGH SCHOOL” and “FORT WORTH ISD” forming the base.
“We were able to settle on something they were really happy with, which is always the goal,” FWISD Branding Coordinator Erica Weaver said.
Plans for the centennial celebration are currently underway. A fun-filled weekend, likely this fall, with alumni being invited back to campus for an open house, is in the works, Ms. Weeks said previously.
And now the party has a logo for all to share.
“It’s also nice to create something that signifies such a big, historical event for a campus,” Mrs. Weaver said. “It’s amazing we have these buildings and campuses serving our students for 100 years. It’s rewarding to be a part of something that draws on the pride of our students, alumni and the community.
“Hopefully, we’ll see it on T-shirts and banners around town."
