KNOW THE PLAN: Important Information for Parents, Employees, and Students Regarding Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-9)
The Fort Worth ISD (FWISD) is actively collaborating with Tarrant County Public Health and Texas Department of State Health Services to “Know the Plan” about the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Right now in Texas, there are several cases of confirmed infections in San Antonio, but all those individuals contracted the disease outside of Texas and those persons are under federal quarantine at a military base.
However, FWISD is taking this health threat very seriously and continuing to monitor schools. When respiratory or gastrointestinal symptoms materialize our school nurses and school leaders will use the existing illness outbreak processes to track illnesses, notify Tarrant County Health department officials, disinfect schools, and notify staff and parents.
We are also reminding parents to not send children to school if they may be sick. Keeping your sick child home will be a great benefit for the health and wellness of all students and staff. This kind of response is the same as for the regular seasonal flu.

In the coming days the District will be coordinating with health officials on what additional steps can be taken should the virus emerge in our community.

Follow Five Steps to Wash Your Hands the Right Way
Washing your hands is easy, and it’s one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs. Clean hands can stop germs from spreading from one person to another and throughout an entire community—from your home and workplace to childcare facilities and hospitals.
Follow these five steps every time.
- Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
- Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
- Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
- Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
- Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.
