Music Changes the World to Take Center Stage at Elementary Festival May 20
Fort Worth ISD’s Visual and Performing Arts Department is gearing up to host Elementary Music Festival 2019.
Now in its 20th year, the two-part event, slated for Monday, May 20, will include an afternoon clinic for more than 400 participating students, followed by a 6:30 p.m. concert. Elementary Music Festival is being hosted in the Trimble Tech High School Auditorium, 1003 W. Cannon St.
This year’s theme is Music Changes the World. Two choirs – the Eighth Notes and Quarter Notes – will each perform two selections, and the 408-member combined chorus will perform three songs.
Guest clinician John Jacobson, a renowned author and composer, will serve as the concert conductor. A string quartet from Texas Christian University and FWISD music teachers are also slated to take part in a few of the selections.
Festival organizers say the free concert aims to offer attendees a lively, high-energy, kid-friendly show. For the student participants, the event provides equal access to choral music.
“They get a glimpse into choral music, said Chrissie Seligson, an elementary music specialist. “It is an experience for children to sing in community together.”
Student performers have spent the last several months learning music and choreography in preparation for the May 20 festival. Each elementary school music teacher was asked to select five student performers to participate in the event.
